**Introduction**
The Cooperative Federation of Anambra State Limited (COFAS) has intensified its push for a dedicated financing mechanism to revive the state’s struggling farm cooperatives. In a press briefing held at the federation’s secretariat in Awka on 2 November 2025, COFAS chairman Chief Udeputy to set of the state’s e‑government to embed cooperatives into the state’s e‑governance platform.

COFAS urged the Anambra State Government to create a Cooperative Development Fund (CDF) and to embed cooperative enterprises within the state’s emerging digital agriculture platform. The appeal comes amid mounting evidence that inadequate capital and weak governance are throttling productivity across the sector.

During the briefing, COFAS presented a three‑point proposal: (1) allocate an initial seed capital of ₦2 billion to the CDF, (2) institute a transparent oversight board comprising cooperative leaders, state officials, and financial experts, and (3) link registered cooperatives to the State Agricultural Information System (SAIS) so that loan disbursements, repayment schedules, and performance metrics can be monitored in real time.
